Why multi-factor authentication is a must!

A strong, complex password is important, but it’s not enough.

Multi Factor Authentication

Multi-factor authentication, MFA, 2-factor authentication or 2FA, is a security system that requires more than one piece of validating evidence in order to access computer systems, networks, smartphones, and cloud-based solutions. Even with all the password complexity requirements, it is still possible for hackers to get into your accounts. Companies have dedicated large amounts of their budgets to security products and services – antivirus tools, firewalls, vulnerability testing, and more. Multi-factor authentication, however is often an overlooked.

Understanding the need for MFA and finding the right solution for your organization will minimize the challenges and help you improve security, user productivity, and improve customer satisfaction in the long term.

In addition to 2-factor authentication, some websites (like Facebook or Gmail) offer login notifications.  This means that if someone tries to login to your account from an unrecognized browser or device, you’ll be sent a notification (usually through an email).  If this attempt was not made by you, then you will have the opportunity to change your password.

If you want to protect your data and online accounts, then 2-factor authentication and login notifications are a necessary step.  They create an additional layer of security and help update a system of verification that’s outdated and out of touch with modern society.

When you are ready to beef up your security and add an MFA policy to your business, give us a call, we’d be happy to help! 866-IT-TAMPA.
